|
More then 150 Contender sailors from 3 continents and 11 countries are about to sail there Worlds from the International Regatta Centre in Medemblik in the Netherlands. Six time world champion Andrea Bonezzi from Italy expects a lot of competition. Especially from Marcus Hamilton from Australia and reigning European Champion Cristoph Homeijer from Germany.
Outsiders from the Netherlands are René Heijnen and Winfred Westerman. Heijnen is well known for his performance in light weather conditions. When it is a windy week also Soren Andreasen from Denmark is one of the guys to beat. The races will be sailed on the IJsselmeer a sweet water lake in the north of the Netherlands. The measurement started on Friday and will be finished on Sunday afternoon. It is a big job for the measures, never in the history of the ultimate single hander there where so many boats sailed a Contender world championship. The fleet will be split in two fleets and four groups. On Thursday and Friday the finals are sailed in a gold and silver fleet. The weather forecast for the coming days are medium winds 12 to 16 knots from the south.
