Jono Neate. Who is this guy ?
Actually placed third, Jono Neate seems to be the newcommer of the Worlds. I for myself never heard of him,  so I  was investigating his story. Therefore i kindly asked Chris Beile from the Aussie Webmagazine www.boatingoz.com.au/. He published a short Artikel there about the successfull Aussies at the Dutch open, where Jono finished at  8.

Jan:
Chris, can you give me some information about the new star at the Contender Heaven. He is placed third after the first 2 Races. Can we expect continous Results from him until the games are over ? Who is this guy, and what makes him fast ?

Chris Peile:

Hi Jan,
Jono jumped into the contender about a year ago now, and after a rusty first few months has really performed well & fairly consistently. He has performed well in previous classes, and I believe he could be consistently up there with Andrea & Marcus in a year or two, although I would be surprised if he could continue to get results this good for the rest of the worlds. My guess before he left was that he would finish the worlds in around 10th - 15th place. To date he has performed OK upwind in most wind speeds, but has the knack of getting a couple of great results - particularly in light airs (he has won heats of the Nationals and Victorian State Titles with Andrea, Marcus & Tim in the fleets). I am not sure what the impact of the boat he is sailng will be, I believe it is Vito Bonezzi's boat and that it is very good. The boat is a step up from his boat in Australia, so should be helping his speed.
Jono sails out of the Mornington Yacht Club in Victoria, Australia, and was reasonably successful in the 420 class. He has come up through the Victorian Youth Sailing Squads.

That is aboutall that I know about him - other than that he is a nice guy!
Cheers & good luck over there,
Chris
